HearAndNow Collective in Malta

The HearAndNow Collective was invited to perform at the International Arts Festival Malta in 2026. The 1.5-hour program, performed without an intermission, featured George Crumb’s groundbreaking ‘Black Angels,’ for which the collective had to bring 21 wine glasses with them to Malta (!)

They also performed Krystof Penderecki’s String Quartet No. 1, the contemporary work ‘Tiefenrausch’ by composer Marko Nikodijevic, and the complete ‘Alleged Dances’ by John Adams. A large portion of Adams’s “Dances” is performed with tape, creating a rousing and at times hypnotic effect. A choreography was also created for a dance collective to accompany this piece by Adams.
